Rotary’s Christmas Shoebox Scheme

At Parnell Jordy & Harvey, we are delighted to be once again supporting the Wessex Rotary Shoebox Scheme – an appeal we have been supporting for several years.

Learn more about the scheme and how you can get involved…don’t forget to pop in and see us to grab your shoebox, before Wednesday 26th October.

Any questions, get in touch today.

What is the Shoebox Scheme?

Organised by the local Rotary Club https://www.facebook.com/rotary1110/ in combination with a national scheme from the Rotary Great Britain and Ireland, the Shoebox Scheme sends boxes of small Christmas gifts to disadvantaged and displaced children in a number of countries, including Albania, Montenegro, Moldova and Romania.

How does it work?

The idea is simple. You can come and collect a shoe box from us, at 5 Winchester Street, Overton, and fill it with a selection of small gifts.

It is recommended that you choose an ‘age group’ for the shoebox gift. We can then provide you with a whole list of items recommended and suitable for your chosen age group and gender.

Once you have selected the gifts, place these inside the shoebox, ensuring it closes properly, and then wrap and decorate the shoebox as you wish, before returning to Parnell Jordy and Harvey, before Wednesday 26th October.

If you can include a £2 donation (stuck with tape to the top of the box) to help towards the transportation and administration costs, then this is greatly appreciated.

What can I put in the shoebox?

When you collect your shoebox, make sure you ask for one of the handy leaflets, which gives a whole list of suggestions for items to include in your shoe box, as well as those that are not advised or not allowed due to customs and for health and safety.

Generally, good items to include are:

  •        small toys
  •        educational items
  •        books
  •        stationery
  •        hair accessories
  •        toothbrushes
  •        flannels
  •        soap
  •        gloves and scarves.

All items should be in new or in a new condition.

There is no need to wrap individual items. In fact, you are asked not to, so that the contents can be easily checked.

You can also download a basic list here – https://www.rotaryshoebox.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/SB-Box-contents2022.pdf

How can I get involved?

We are trying to make it as easy as possible to get involved this year. That is why, here at Parnell Jordy & Harvey, we have collected a range of boxes, ready and waiting for you to collect.

We appreciate that with the rising cost of living and energy prices, it can feel a little tougher to donate items or give to charitable initiatives this year, but the children are genuinely so grateful. It is a wonderful scheme to be involved with and we know many Overton children really enjoy putting together these special Christmas presents. Plus, the items you choose do not have to be expensive.
